BHS Hosts Star-Studded ‘Golden Age ’ Event at the Atterbury Estate in Southampton

Updated: Jul 1, 2021

Earlier this month, Brown Harris Stevens hosted an event that included attendees Martha Stewart, Brooke Shields, Tory Burch, and prolific DUMBO developer David Walentas, among others. The event took place at Atterbury Estate. The 14,000 square-foot home, located at 199 Coopers Neck Lane, is represented by Christopher J. Burnside.

Golden Age: The Genius of Architect Grosvenor Atterbury featured a conversation between Paul Goldberger and Peter Pennoyer, which was moderated by Stewart herself.

The celebration also included a book party for Paul Goldberger, whose book DUMBO: The Making of a New York Neighborhood tells the story of how Walentas transformed the neighborhood Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass into one of the most popular and booming areas in New York City.

Proceeds from the event benefited Amanda Foreman’s literary charity, House of Speakeasy, a program that delivers books in a special “Bookmobile” to children in neighborhoods underserved by bookstores and libraries.

The Host Committee included Amanda Foreman, Steven Gambrel, Goldberger, Peter Pennoyer, Michael Schnayerson, and Gayfryd Steinberg, as well as Stewart, Bronson Van Wyck—the designer of the event—and Walentas.

Atterbury Estate, situated in the picturesque Village of Southampton, was recently reimagined by Walentas and is regarded as one of the most premier estates in the Hamptons. It offers the perfect balance of old-world charm with contemporary amenities, including a custom solarium and a heated, gunite swimming pool with spa.
