As the weather begins to cool down and we settle into our fall rhythms, the great arts, performance, and community events of Northern New Jersey continue. To help you plan your October, here are some events happening throughout Hoboken, Jersey City, Montclair, and beyond.

Hoboken

Hoboken Fall Arts & Music Festival, October 3

In addition to children’s activities and a variety of art, food, and craft vendors, the festival features three stages of live music with artists from around the world.
 

Storytime at the Fire Department Museum, October 10

Perfect for children ages 2 to 5, the program hosts guest readers every Sunday who present stories and songs about the city’s history.

Main Street Pops Artisan Market, October 17

Taking place on the third Sunday of each month, the outdoor market features handmade goods from local artisans.
 

HoBOOken 5K Halloween Run, October 30

Happening both in person and virtually, the run is in support of the Hoboken Shelter, which provides lodging and meals to those in need.

Jersey City

Farmers Market at Lincoln Park, Every Sunday

Taking place every Sunday, the market features locally grown veggies, fruits, eggs, dairy, and plants, in addition to baked goods.

Dr. Digioias Tricky Tray, October 14

Featuring live music by the band Jersey Sound, this event at the Zeppelin Hall Biergarten will benefit local breast cancer organizations.

Hudson West Festival, October 16

The festival features American, folk, and roots music performed by an exciting lineup of talent.

The Mountain Goats Perform Live, October 23

The California-based band will perform their top indie-folk hits at White Eagle Hall.

Montclair/Essex County

Montclair Design Week, October 1-10

Enjoy 10 days of thought-provoking talks, tours, workshops, and installations at Montclair Design Week, which celebrates the ways design enriches our lives.

Montclair Literary Festival, October 2-3

The Montclair Literary Festival kicks off with a special family event featuring Henry Winkler of “Happy Days” fame, who will discuss his Hank Zipzer & Alien Superstar book series.

The Eye is the First Circle, October 14-17

Hosted by Montclair State University, the unique production blends art with performance to bring the story of a historic family portrait to life.
