Discover Some of the Finest Wineries, Vineyards, and Distilleries in the Hudson Valley

Updated: Jun 29, 2022

Summer in the Hudson Valley means sunlit plains, lush rolling hills, and crystal-clear views. The area is also known for its prime selection of wineries, vineyards and distilleries, each of which provide a leisurely venue for enjoying the Valley's natural beauty during the warmer months. The wines produced there are among some of the most beloved in the country, with many rivaling the quality and acclaim of northern California's exports.

Given the recent opening of our Brown Harris Stevens Rhinebeck office, we asked some of our Hudson Valley agents and executives for their recommendations for the best places to sip fine wine or cocktails while taking in the area's scenic views. Here are their selections.

One of BHS Chief Strategy Officer Doug Williford's top recommendations, the winery is one of if not the oldest in America. Located in picturesque Marlboro, the 37-acre estate also holds New York Winery Farm license no. 1, underscoring its history in the state.

From classic pinot noir and chardonnay to the Estate Banco Noir, there is something for every taste preference. Can't visit? Join the Benmarl Wine Club to receive quarterly deliveries of the vineyard's best wines.

Recommended by Lisa Fountain, the Executive Director of Sales for our Rhinebeck Office, Whitecliff is known for their artisanal, vegan wines and sustainable production methods. It's no wonder it has been lauded as one of the best wineries in the country. "Their tasting room overlooks the Hudson River," said BHS Agent Nancy Felcetto. "As a 30+ year Vegan, great to have them here!"

Recommended by both Williford and Felcetto, Chatham is owned by Steven Rosario and Justen Nickell, both graduates of The Culinary Institute of America.

Perched atop a high hill, the charming winery is unique in that it is also a farm, complete with an apiary that houses French Maron chickens.

The small, family-owned vineyard is pet friendly and includes a sculpture garden, play park for children, and an onsite food truck. It is also popular for its weekly "Yoga on the Lawn" series. Sabba produces six signature wines, including the aromatic "Three Hearts Ice Wine," made with Vidal Blanc and Traminette. "Bring your dog and kids to enjoy the beauty and bounty of the Hudson Valley," said Felcetto.

One of our top-recommended venues, Coopers Daughter is a distillery offering spirits, brews, artisan cocktails, and more, all of which can be enjoyed in the Cocktail Garden.

The distillery also has a shop attached with food, handcrafted goods from local artisans, and the famously delicious Cooper's Daughter Apple Vodka.
