Wynwood, Miami, Florida, Street Art

Few neighborhoods have seen as rapid and drastic of a revival as Wynwood. What was once a working-class, industrial town nestled between Miami’s Midtown and Edgewater communities is now a bustling cultural center known for its street art, nightlife, and trendy dining.

Wynwood Walls - Miami

An Artistic Enclave

Among Wynwood’s original claims to fame are the stunning Wynwood Walls. Located at the heart of the neighborhood, the Walls—which originally comprised the warehouse district—are adorned with jaw-dropping commissioned murals from artists around the world.

Conceived by the late Tony Goldman, who is now renowned as a trailblazing community revitalizer, the walls epitomize the growth and development Wynwood has seen over the last two decades. Along with revitalizing the neighborhood, part of Goldman’s mission was to normalize and showcase graffiti and street art. Visitors can learn more by visiting Wynwood’s Museum of Graffiti, located just a short walk away from the Walls.

In addition to the Walls, Wynwood itself is now a canvas for graffiti and street art, to the point where Miami residents and tourists flock to bimonthly art walks, which also feature live music and food trucks.

Also popular is the aptly named Miami Selfie Museum, which offers hundreds of backdrops that are sure to enhance anyone’s Instagram feed.

Vibrant Nightlife

Despite its only recent revitalization, Wynwood has quickly grown to be a top destination for nightlife in Miami, on par with the likes of South Beach and Downtown. Businesses have flocked to the area as a result, most reflecting the street art and industrial feel of the neighborhood in their own décor.

A great example is Jay Wakefield Brewing. Along with at least 15 unique beers on tap at any given time, the hip brewery is adorned with floor-to-ceiling murals in a casual environment.

Easily one of Miami’s best-kept secrets for cocktails, Gramps features both indoor and outdoor seating, eclectic live entertainment, and quite possibly the best pizza in Miami. Afterwards, be sure to head over to Brick to dance the night away. Set in a converted 1920s home and warehouse with a large outdoor patio, the nightclub offers a menu of unique cocktails and brews, in addition to weekly dance parties.

A foodie’s dream come true, Wynwood showcases an array of dining options, ranging from international bites to contemporary, artfully prepared dishes.

For a one-of-a-kind dining experience, try 1-800 Lucky. The Asian food hall features everything from mouthwatering ramen to sushi and handrolls, all from local restaurants known for their authentic dishes. Down the road from the food hall is The Salty Donut, a bustling donut shop that regularly attracts a line out the door.

Known for its twists on classic Latin American cuisine, Spanglish features a menu of curated dishes with flavorful combinations, such as Caribbean Dumplings—made with pork, morcilla and sweet plantain stuffing, and house-made pico de gallo.
