Since, 2012, #GivingTuesday has reminded us of the importance of generosity, solidarity, and reciprocity, particularly during the holidays. Taking place the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving, the day functions as a call to action for both people and organizations around the world to give back during a time in which many become distracted by materialism and indulgence.
From the Northeast to South Florida, here are organizations in each of our Brown Harris Stevens markets you can donate to in the spirit of this global movement.
New York City
Brown Harris Stevens' philanthropic arm, BHS Helping Hands, is partnering with New York Cares for our 9th annual Coat Drive, running from November 30 through December 31.
Our Hoboken and Montclair offices are participating in a coat drive in conjunction with Jersey Cares and Scanio Moving and Storage. Coats can be dropped off at our Hoboken and Montclair offices through December 31st.
Our Montclair office is also taking part in a Frosty's Friends children's toy drive. Last year, Jersey Cares responded to over 5,500 letters to Frosty from children in New Jersey who may not normally receive gifts during the holidays. Register to respond to gift requests through Friday, December 10.
Additionally, our Hoboken Office is working with Our Lady of Grace Church to support families in need with donations ranging from clothing, food, gift cards and toys.
Brown Harris Stevens Connecticut is participating in the Inspirica Holiday Toy Drive. The easiest way to donate a gift is to buy one off of their Amazon wish list which lists all the fits requested by our partner agencies. We are accepting donations at all of our CT offices through December 9.
Following last year's successful coat drive in which over 200 coats were donated, our Connecticut offices are once again partnering with Person to Person (P2P), a non-profit agency dedicated to providing those in need throughout Fairfield County. BHS Hamptons agents will be participating in a Toy Drive for Toys for Tots and delivering the toys to one of the local collection centers. Donations will be accepted at any of our offices in the Hamptons through December 17.
Our Westhampton office will be collect and donate pairs of new socks to Mauren's Haven Homeless Outreach in Riverhead, NY. As the #1 most requested item in homeless shelters, we are looking for socks of all sizes and colors for men, women, and children. The office will be delivering the socks to Maureen's Haven through mid-March.
Agents in our Miami offices are collecting toys for children residing at the Lotus House shelter. Donations will be accepted through December 6th. Some of the most desirable items featured on the shelter's wish list include play mats, music toys, sensory toys, puzzles, board games, bikes, sports equipment, gift cards, headphones, makeups kits and tablets.
BHS Palm Beach Agents are participating in a toy drive for the pediatric oncology patients at Children's Hospital in West Palm Beach. Anyone can participate by sending an unwrapped toy to either 353 Worth Avenue or 1970 S. Dixie Highway, Suite C1 offices by December 16th.
