3 of the Best Veggie Burgers in New York City

By Deborah Miller, Licensed Real Estate Salesperson

Dining variety is one of NYC’s most compelling attributes, and there are plenty of options for vegetarians, vegans, and plant-based eaters alike. When in doubt, a veggie burger is a flavorful, accessible, and nourishing meal you can even eat on the go as you explore the city!

Below are my picks for the three most delectable veggie burgers in New York City.

3rd Place: Hutch & Waldo

Upper East Side

I took my order here to go, and the employees were both affable and prompt! The zesty, spice-infused veggie patty is made with basil mayo, tomato, lettuce and onion. It is served on a French baguette, making it feel like a "veggie burger sandwich."

As a recommended dessert add-on nearby, try Anita Gelato just down the road. With mouthwatering flavors—all of which are handmade—the gourmet gelateria offers plenty of dairy-free and vegan options.

2nd Place: Le Monde

Morningside Heights

The outdoor seating at this restaurant, located adjacent to a flower shop, made for an attractive ambiance. My mocktail paired most colorfully and deliciously with the yummy fries and homemade veggie burger, which was topped with an herb aioli, avocado, and arugula, served on a whole wheat bun with sweet potato fries. After your meal, take a stroll through the Columbia University campus. If you like to thrift, visit Housing Works on Broadway.

The Bronx

Located just next to the Brown Harris Stevens Riverdale office, Blue Bay comes in at number one for its deluxe veggie burger and fries. My visit took place on a wet, cold day, but I still ate al fresco. My heart was set on a milkshake, but my head prevailed and I opted for a hot cocoa given the chill. Points awarded for the traditional fixings: lettuce and tomato, and the “deluxe” add-ons, which were a mini side of cole slaw, a pickle, and skinny fries. The fast and friendly service is not to be overlooked.

While in the neighborhood, visit Wave Hill Public Garden and Cultural Center to see picturesque gardens and blooming flower trees during the summertime.
