"I love Jersey City because it’s incredibly dynamic, culturally rich, and is constantly evolving. It offers the convenience of the big city with the ease of a medium sized city…and without a doubt the best skyline views." — Alex Vezza

Saint Peter’s University’s recent, historic wins in the NCAA men’s basketball tournament have invigorated the residents of Jersey City, spurring the city's already fierce pride and igniting celebrations throughout the community.

While Saint Peter’s run in the tournament may be over, the spirit of Jersey City is stronger than ever. To celebrate, we spoke to local experts about what makes the city so special.

Jersey City Is Known for its Diversity

“Jersey City is a melting pot for people coming from other places to find opportunity and build a life in our bustling metro area,” said John Younan. “With a handful of larger wards: Jersey City Heights, Journal Square, West-Side, Bergen-Lafayette, Greenville, and Downtown—there’s really a place for all walks of life to make a home.”

Ann Wycherley echoed Younan's sentiment, emphasizing the “amazing array of cultures, culinary experiences, art, architecture, and night life” of Jersey City. In fact, Jersey City has been named “The Most Diverse City” in the United States several times in the last five years by WalletHub, which compared 500+ cities in its survey.

“Jersey City may very well be America’s most diverse and inclusive city at the moment, particularly for its size. It is multi-faceted in every imaginable way and growing by leaps and bounds. It is truly a portrait of modern-day America.” — Dale Fior

Parks and Recreation Are Abundant in Jersey City

"Jersey City offers numerous parks, including Lincoln Park and J Owen Grundy Park, as well as plenty of local markets, events, and food festivals." John Younan

Though Jersey City is cosmopolitan in its own right, its abundant parks, recreational facilities, and outdoor activities offer plenty of options for those who prefer greenery and a quieter, suburban feel.

Sharon Shahinian highlighted Liberty State Park’s outdoor offerings, which include biking and walking paths and large green spaces, all with views of Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty. The Hamilton Park Farmer’s Market and Van Vorst Park are some of her other favorites.

Cosmopolitan Convenience

Eugene Cordano, President and Managing Director of BHS New Jersey, loves Jersey City for its ease of living, offering both ease of access to Manhattan and a vibrant downtown with plenty to do and see. "New York City is right there, but you have everything you need right here," he said.

I love Jersey City because of the beautiful restaurants and local attractions. The best part is it’s a very easy commute to NYC and surrounding cities. — Tiffany Harrison

Some standout restaurants in the city worth trying include the Light Horse Tavern, The Hamilton Inn, Corto, and Skinner's Loft. For chic nightlife and craft cocktails, visit the Rooftop at Exchange Place, Porta, Cellar, or Six26, an LGBTQ+ rooftop bar.
